Lohan starred as Anna Coleman alongside Jamie Lee Curtis in the 2003 family comedy Freaky Friday. At Lohan's own initiative, her character was rewritten and changed from a Goth style to be more relatable.[20] Critic Roger Ebert wrote that Lohan "has that Jodie Foster sort of seriousness and intent focus beneath her teenage persona". Freaky Friday earned Lohan the award for Breakthrough Performance at the 2004 MTV Movie Awards[22] and, as of 2010, it remains her most commercially successful film, earning $160 million worldwide[23] as well as an 88% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Aiming to become a triple threat—actor, singer and dancer, similar to Ann-Margret and Marilyn Monroe—Lohan began showcasing her singing through her acting. the Freaky Friday soundtrack, she sang the closing theme, "Ultimate", as well as recording four songs for the Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen soundtrack. Producer Emilio Estefan, Jr. signed Lohan to a five-album production deal in 2002.[6] Two years later, Lohan signed a recording contract with Casablanca Records, headed by Tommy Mottola.

In 2004, Lohan starred in two lead roles. The first, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen—Lohan's first role in a film that was not a remake[6]—earned a domestic box office total of $29 million, with Brandon Gray of Box Office Mojo commenting that it was "well above expectations as it was strictly for young girls". The film overall, however, did not meet with critical acclaim.[28] Robert K. Elder of Metromix wrote that, "though still a promising star, Lohan will have to do a little penance before she's forgiven for Confessions".

The teen comedy Mean Girls was Lohan's first movie independent of Disney. The film was a critical and commercial success, grossing $129 million worldwide and, according to Brandon Gray, "cementing her status as the new teen movie queen", while Steve Rhodes wrote that "Lohan dazzles us once more. The smartly written script is a perfect match for her intelligent brand of comedy. received four awards at the 2004 Teen Choice Awards for Freaky Friday and Mean Girls, including Breakout Movie Star.[33] Mean Girls also earned her two awards at the 2005 MTV Movie Awards, Best Female Performance and Best On-Screen Team along with several other cast members.

Lohan, then 17, became the youngest-ever host of the MTV Movie Awards in 2004. Following Mean Girls, which was scripted by Tina Fey and featured several alumni of Saturday Night Live, Lohan hosted the show three times between 2004 and 2006, as well as hosting the 2006 World Music Awards.

Speak, Lohan's debut album, was released in December 2004, peaking at number four on the Billboard 200 and earning Platinum certification by early 2005. Lohan cowrote six of the twelve songs on the album. The album was praised by Linda McGee of RTÉ, who awarded it 4 out of 5 stars and commented that "Speak opens with all the raw emotion and teenage angst that you'd expect from an artist of Lohan's age" and that, "while her vocals are not sensational, their gritty edge keeps Lohan more than afloat throughout this album" as well as comparing the album to the early music of Avril Lavigne. Allmusic, however, awarded it 2 out of 5 stars and claimed the album "feels more like a byproduct of an overdriven, overamplified celebrity culture than an actual album". Though primarily a pop album, Speak was introduced with the single "Rumors". Described by Rolling Stone as "a bass-heavy, angry club anthem", "Rumors" details Lohan's complaints with the paparazzi and eventually earned a Gold certification in the United States.

While shooting Herbie: Fully Loaded in 2004, Lohan was hospitalized with a kidney infection brought on by stress in her personal life and of recording her first album while the film was in production, prompting Vanity Fair to label it Lohan's "first disastrous shoot". The magazine also described how Lohan terminated the promotional tour and was de-emphasized on the movie poster due to "un-Disney-like behavior". Lohan began dating actor Wilmer Valderrama in 2004, guest-starring in an episode of That '70s Show, of which Valderrama was a regular. According to Vanity Fair, the breakup with Valderrama contributed to Lohan's issues during the shooting of Herbie: Fully Loaded.

Jet Li formally launched his "One Foundation" at the Novotel in Beijing on April 19, 2007. [Photo: CRIENGLISH.com]

Chinese martial arts star Jet Li finally kicked off his "One Foundation" at the Novotel in Beijing on Thursday. At this simple-but-significant press conference, Jet Li also persuaded his many celebrity friends, including Zhou Xun, Xu Jinglei and famed TV host Huang Jianxiang, to get onboard the project.

"One plus one plus one equals one (1+1+1=1)" - the 15-second advertisement that we have just listened to features a little girl writing "1" with the background of the foundation's logo. It is the ideal of Jet Li's "One Foundation" which calls for each person to donate one yuan (US$0.13) per month to assist people in urgent need of help. The whole world is actually a big family, it explains.

Jet Li has been planning the project for years, hoping to help youth suffering from mental health problems, as well as the victims of natural disasters.

To join in the charity campaign, each person is encouraged to send the single character 1 to the number 999309 via SMS. In doing so, they will donate one yuan for the foundation. Of course, sending larger numbers will result in a greater donation. And if anybody promises to donate 999 yuan every year, they will become a permanent volunteer. All collected money will be sent to the needy via the Red Cross Society of China.

Jet Li said he started the "One Foundation" idea after he and his family narrowly survived the Tsunami in 2004. Since then, he has given up most of his film career in preparation for charity work. As the ambassador of China's Red Cross, he not only worked actively with members of the organization; he also persuaded the directors, actors, and investors to donate to the foundation whenever joining in the shooting of any film project. He wanted celebrity friends to jointly set up a public credit system to promote the campaign.

"The stars will supervise if the money will truly and transparently go to the needy. With the participation of these stars, I also hope that media will oversee the use of the money. The prospect of coaxing one yuan only from a limited number of people is inconceivable with the backing of such stars standing together. The stars will play an encouraging role in calling people together."

Jet Li didn't reveal how much money he has personally donated to the foundation. But he has said that a heart of love is an immeasurable quantity.

Many celebrities are similarly busy with charity work - from Jolie and Pitt adopting one baby after another, to the "Smile Angle Foundation" established by Asian pop diva, Faye Wang, and her husband, mainland actor Li Yapeng. And many people are asking whether such activities are merely ploys to enhance the star's profile.

Jet Li, personally believes that it is unnecessary for him to do that.

"I have risked the danger of death. I could have died at any moment during the Tsunami disaster. At that moment, I realized that although I am so prestigious, rich and incomparable, I have still had no dealings with death. So, if I do not fear of death, what else shall I be afraid of? Support, agreement, doubt and criticism will always follow you, no matter what you do in this world. And your doubt can only be eliminated with long-term public credit. Take, for example, me, Jet Li, only with the earnestness and sincerity that I earned from the global film circle over the past 27 years, could I establish this foundation and win so many supporters. It is unnecessary for me to promote my popularity at present."

Entertainment superstars, including Jay Chou, Andy Lau, Peter Chan and so on, have also contributed to the organization. Hong Kong veteran star Eric Tsang called for people to join in the campaign.

"In sending the short message 1 to 999309, you will donate one yuan to Jet Li's One Foundation, helping those in need. It is so simple."

nil Kapoor, is a prominent Indian film actor and producer. He first won acclaim for his roles in Yash Chopra’s drama Mashaal (1984) and Shekhar Kapur’s sci-fi Mr. India (1987), and won a Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award for his performance in the former.

After a series of successful films, Kapoor earned his first Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in N. Chandra’s Tezaab in 1988, and later for Indra Kumar’s Beta in 1992. Since then, he has starred in a number of critical and commercial successes, including Virasat (1997), for which he won the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Performance; Biwi No.1 (1999); Taal (1999), for which he won his second Filmfare Best Supporting Actor Award; Pukar (2000), for which he won his first National Film Award for Best Actor; and No Entry (2005). Kapoor has thus established himself as one of the most successful and popular actors of Hindi cinema.

His first role in an international film was as Prem Kumar in Danny Boyle’s Golden Globe and Academy Award winning Slumdog Millionaire (2008), for which Kapoor won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and received a nomination for Best Ensemble at the Black Reel Awards of 2008.

Anil Kapoor was born on December 24, 1956, in a chawl in Tilak Nagar, Mumbai, India, to a film producer Surinder Kapoor and Nirmal Kapoor. He attended Our Lady of Perpetual Succour High School, Chembur. Coming from a film-oriented family, Kapoor’s elder brother, Boney Kapoor, is a producer while younger brother Sanjay Kapoor is also a well known Bollywood actor, though not as successful.

In 1984, he married Sunita Kapoor and had two daughters and a son. Kapoor’s elder daughter is the actress Sonam Kapoor. As of 2008, his other daughter, Rhea, is studying in New York while his son Harsh is still in school.

He is the brother-in-law of the actress Sridevi with whom he has starred in many films. Recently he acted in a movie called Slumdog Millionaire which won 8 academy awards.

Kapoor made his Bollywood debut with Umesh Mehra’s Hamare Tumhare (1979) in a supporting role. After a few minor roles in films such as Hum Paanch (1980) and Shakti (1982), he got his first leading role in the 1983 Hindi film, Woh Saat Din. Kapoor later tried acting in Tollywood and Kollywood, and appeared in the Telugu film Vamsa Vriksham and Mani Ratnam’s Kannada debut film Pallavi Anu Pallavi.

Next, followed a critically acclaimed performance in Yash Chopra’s drama Mashaal (1984), for which he won his first Filmfare Award in the Best Supporting Actor category. Going on to deliver commercial success with films like Meri Jung (1985) and Karma (1986), Kapoor won acclaim for his title role in Shekhar Kapur’s sci-fi film Mr. India (1987). The film became one of his biggest box office hits and shot him to superstar status.

In 1988, he was rewarded with his first Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in the hit film, Tezaab. The following year he delivered more commercial success with Ram Lakhan, Parinda and Rakhwala. The year 1990, saw him play a dual role, as twin brothers in the successful Kishen Kanhaiya. Anil Kapoor won critical acclaim for his performance in Eeshwar, co-starring Vijaya Shanti. With these successes, Anil Kapoor was widely acknowledged as the industry’s biggest star at the time. This was followed by a critically acclaimed performance as a middle aged man in Yash Chopra’s romantic drama Lamhe. Although the film was a box office failure in India, it proved to be a success overseas.

In 1992, Kapoor received his second Filmfare Best Actor Award for his performance in Indra Kumar’s Beta opposite Madhuri Dixit. In 1993, Boney Kapoor’s much delayed mega-budget Roop Ki Rani Choron Ka Raja was a disaster at box office and damaged Anil Kapoor’s reputation as the industry biggest star at the time. The only major success in these years was Laadla with Sridevi, a film also produced by Boney Kapoor.

After a period of little box office success, he had box office success with films like Judaai (1997), Deewana Mastana (1997), Biwi No.1 (1999), Loafer (1996), Hum Aapke Dil Mein Rehte Hain (1999) and Taal (1999).. He also won critical acclaim for his strong performance in Virasat, a remake of Tamil film in which Kamal Hasan had played Anil Kapoor’s role.

The great showman director Subash Ghai has said in a TV show that Anil Kapoor is the only actor which always give full sactisfaction in his films. They have worked in more than 5 films.

He won his first National Film Award in the Best Actor category for his role in Rajkumar Santoshi’s critically acclaimed Pukar in 2000. Following films from 2001 to 2004 failed to do well but Kapoor won acclaim for his role in the thriller My Wife’s Murder (2005), which he also produced. Anees Bazmee’s super-hit comedy No Entry followed for Kapoor that year. The film became the highest grossing film of the year and Kapoor’s comic-timing was applauded.

Kapoor’s most recent films, Anees Bazmee’s Welcome, which released on December 21, 2007, did very well at the box office. His first 2008 release Abbas Mustan’s thriller Race became a box office hit too. But Vijay Krishna Acharya’s Tashan, which marked Anil’s comeback to Yash Raj Films failed to do well at the box office. His most recent films were his first English-language film Slumdog Millionaire, which released on 12 November 2008, and Yuvvraaj, which released on 21 November 2008. Yuvvraaj, with Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif in the lead roles, has failed to do well at the box office. On the other hand, Slumdog Millionaire has won a number of international awards and received rave reviews from critics across the globe, costing only US $15 million to produce, but pulling in more than $40 million in the first three months of opening. In January 2009, he attended the 66th Golden Globe Awards ceremony along with the team of Slumdog Millionaire, which won four Golden Globe Awards. Kapoor also received a nomination for Best Ensemble at the Black Reel Awards of 2008 and has won the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture.

In 2002, Kapoor produced his first film, the comedy Badhaai Ho Badhaai, in which he also starred in, but the film failed to do well. Next followed, the critically acclaimed thriller My Wife’s Murder (2005), which also didn’t do well at the box office. His next produced film, Gandhi, My Father, which focuses on the relationship between Mahatma Gandhi and his son Harilal Gandhi released on August 3, 2007. Despite being acclaimed by critics and audiences, the film failed to do well.

Kapoor is currently producing the film, Shortcut – The Con Is On.
